Social Media Marketing

In an attempt to become more familiar with social networking websites, I have decided to sign up for a few services and try to utilize the potential marketing that is being said to be quite high.

Having had a Facebook account for quite some time, a fairly new profile with Blogger and now being drawn in by the Twitter fad, I hope to learn more about these social medias.

It is my opinion that the discussion of social media sites, such as the mentioned ones above, offer anyone an almost free form of marketing themselves or their business. I would like to try and tap into this form of marketing and later on, report my findings. How exactly I will go about doing this I'm not sure. Possibly run a few tests among the various websites I am now a part of and see which might be more successful.

For those of you who are just starting out with your own marketing, I would probably suggest strongly considering to get on the train of social media marketing as soon as possible. Why? Because you can't really lose a whole lot by at least trying it. Most of the social websites offer free services which, when used properly, could lead to many new phone calls or website hits and potentially... new clients.

As a personal experience, when I added my portfolio website link to Facebook, I noticed from my Google Analytics account that my website was being visited through the Facebook addition. That's not to say I received a client through it, but does prove people are interested enough to click when given the option.

Being a new Twitter user, I wonder how the above experience will relate when more references to my site are given?
