On a almost daily basis, I frequent job posting websites to check around for a little extra work, mainly just small jobs. Something that I see on a regular basis are people requesting a large amount of work for a VERY minimal (if any) payment amount. I just recently came across someone wanting a logo and a "neat website" but because they're starting a business, don't have much money to offer for your time and expertise. They are, however, willing to add an acknowledgment on their home page with your name and contact info. Cool... but is that all?
People don't understand the time and work that it takes to complete a project. Especially a logo and website. A logo is the representation of your company, if I asked someone to do it for free, I shouldn't be expecting anything really good.
It's a pet peeve in a sense. I payed for schooling to learn what I do. I took extra night courses to get better at what I do. I expect to get paid what I'm worth. Why is it that people feel they can request work for free?
This happens often and I'd be very surprised if they received a response each time they requested it (in favor of doing the work).
